Shutting down a unit in a Russian nuclear power plant!

A subsidiary of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) announced the shutdown of the fourth unit of the Beloyarsk Nuclear Power Plant in the Ural Mountains, on Sunday (August 18th).

It explained that the shutdown of the unit was at 09.15 local time; after a “false” response by the safety system.

“The shutdown was based on routine algorithms,” RosEnergoAtom said in a statement. The company added that the level of radiation in the NPP – which was opened in 1964 – and the surrounding area is in line with normal levels.

A Russian nuclear power plant, northwest of Moscow, last month, shut down three of its four generating units after a power transformer malfunctioned. Later the units returned to operation.
