Belarus Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk announced during the 60th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna the signature of a technical cooperation with Bangladesh.
Belarus is building since 2013 and 2014 two AES 2006 of 1194 MW each under the management of Atomstroyexport (Rosatom). The first unit is schedule for commissioning in 2018 followed by the second unit in 2020. The nuclear power plant will be built at the Astravets (Ostrovets) site in Hrodna Voblast, 45 kilometers from Vilnius, Lithuania. The cost of the project is estimated to be USD $11 billion.
Belarus and Bangladesh signed a preliminary agreement and a Bangladeshi delegation will visit Belarus in 2017 to discuss the cooperation for the construction of Rooppur nuclear power plant.
Note: Bangladesh signed an agreement with Russia on 25th December 2015 for the construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) which is consist of two units of 1200 MW. The cost of the project is estimated as USD $12.65 billion.
