In a recent meeting in London at the World Nuclear Association Mr. Zheng Mingguang, Vice President of State Nuclear Power Company (SNPTC, a subsidiary of State Power Investment Corp), announced that in the following five years China plans to build around 30 new nuclear reactors and probably more after these five years: “China’s three nuclear enterprises-CNNC, SNPTC and CGN will build two new reactors every year”.
Six to Ten of the new built will be the CAP1000 (Chinese version of the AP1000 developed by Westinghouse). The first approved six reactors include the two reactors built in Sanmen Zhejiang province by CNNC. It is estimated that the first two unit will be finished at the beginning of 2017. SNPTC intends to build two more reactors in Haiyang, Shandong province, while CGN will build two in Lufeng, Guangdong province.
