What can we expect from Likhachev ?

alexey-likhachevOn 5 October 2016, President Vladimir Putin appointed Alexei Likhachev CEO of Rosatom.

Alexei Likhachev previously held the position of the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development being in charge of foreign trade activities.

Last month he organized in Moscow a high level meeting between the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and Russia Industrialists and Traders Association (RSPP).

TOBB Meeting Moscow September 2016

Such meeting aimed to normalize the business relation between both countries, from delivery of visa to preferential trade agreement in construction and investment.

Mr. Likhachev has been involved in the series of agreements for a continental economic partnership between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

His new appointment is a clear sign that Vladimir Putin wants an international businessman at the head of Rosatom to increase exports, as he already did for Russian machinery and metal with members of ASEAN.

When we look at his meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia last April, and his position on bilateral trad agreements, Mr. Likhachev will certainly be the best advocate for Turkish companies to partner with Rosatom supply chain and to export with Russian coutnerparts in the Middle East.

Note: Alexej Ulykayev, Minister of the Russian Economic Development will visit Turkey on October 8 and 9, followed by Vladimir Putin on October 11.
