Pakistan’s fourth nuclear power plant, Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3 (C-3) which is located near Mianwali started to supply electricity to the national grid on 17th October 2016 on trial basis.
Chashma Nuclear Power plant Unit 3 is a Chinese CNP 300 Pressurized Water Reactor, designed by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and built by China Zhongyuan Engineering Company Group (CZEC). It has a capacity to generate 340 MW electricity, like its model in Qinshan I, in Zhejiang province.
In 2009 Pakistan signed an agreement with CNNC for the construction of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant unit 3 and 4 with a cost estimated as USD 750 million each.
A formal ceremony was held at the plant site in which members of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and members of CNNC who build the nuclear power plant. According to PAEC, after performing various safety and functional tests, the plant will attain full power in first fortnight of December 2016 and a formal Inauguration of the full power grid connection will be held in December.
