In November 2016 a meeting will be held in Tokyo Japan between Japan and India. In this meeting Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe likely to sign a pact on Civil Nuclear cooperation.
The pact will open the way for Japan to export the nuclear power plant technology to India. India is already generating almost 6300 MW electricity through nuclear power plant. So in order to achieve this target India is already working in many nuclear power projects and also thinking to establish new nuclear power plants in different parts of India in collaboration with many countries like Russia, France and U.S.A.
Both countries in December 2015 reached a basic agreement for corporation in civil nuclear energy but due to technical and legal difference both parties did not sign the agreement.
India has a nuclear weapon program so considering this fact Japan has been demanding additional Non-Proliferation guarantees from India, as India has not joined the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty.Furthermore Japan has made it clear that if India conducts a nuclear test in future than Japan will stop the nuclear cooperation immediately.
“The Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty is an international treaty whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and to further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament and general and complete disarmament.”
