Berat Albayrak unveils nuclear electricity production

CERAWeek 2017 is a leading annual gathering of senior energy executives, innovators and offering dialogue and insight into the energy future has taken place in Houston, Texas, USA between March 6-10th. The chairman of the conference was Daniel Yergin who is also the Vice Chairman of IHS Markit and a Pulitzer price-winning American author, speaker, and economic researcher.
Berat Albayrak, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources stated on the developments and future objectives of the Turkish energy industry to Mr. Yergin : $ 75 billion USD were invested over the past 15 years in Turkey and should continue in order for the country to achieve its economic growth targets.

According to Mr.Albayrak, “Turkey’s future priority is to diversify sources of natural gas, electricity, nuclear and renewable energies”:

 

  • Diversification of resources and routes of natural gas, which has infrastructure in 78 of 81 provinces,
  • Building a 1,000 MW solar power plant in Konya-Karapınar with a 15-year electricity purchase guarantee. At least 10 GW of capacity is targeted for solar and wind renewable energy projects over the next 10 years,
  • The nuclear power energy will reach 10% of Turkey’s electricity production .

 

The target in the next 10 years is that Turkey meets at least 2/3 of his energy portfolio from domestic energy sources while currently it imports his energy with a rate of 72%.
