On 7 April 2017, a delegation led by Yukiya Amano, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), visited Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute (SNERDI), a subsidiary of the State Nuclear Power Company (SNPTC).
SNPTC merged with the operator China Power Investment Co (CPI) in 2016 to create a new entity: State Power Investment Co (SPIC).
SNERDI presented the latest progress on AP1000 self-reliance projects and national major scientific and technological project CAP1400 as well as the typical achievements made through equipment localization and test validation.
Mr. Amano highlighted the importance of technology innovation and nuclear power talent training. SNERDI has not only mastered AP1000 technology but also developed the CAP1400. Mr. Amano added that SNERDI’s research and testing in CAP1400 and Generation Ⅳ reactors would benefit to the nuclear power development in China and the rest of the world.
Mr. Amano pointed out that IAEA continues to encourage young people, especially women, to dedicate themselves to the innovation and development in the nuclear power and nuclear technology applications.
He hoped that young staffs in SNERDI could keep up their learning efforts and accumulate rich experience in this field and make full use of their own talent while working together with experts from China and the world.
