The IAEA Investigates the Emirati Nuclear Program

In 2016, the IAEA with the aid of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has carried out a mission for supplementary inspection in the Emirati “Baraka” site. This mission included consultation for physical security to evaluate some aspects of the Emirati national nuclear security.

In 2016 the FANR conducted 19 federal search operations in “Barakah” to investigate the certified program of training and prearation of the site to receive the fuel.

It also carried out 1776 federal search operations to assure the security of the nuclear and radiological program in the UAE.

As a result, in 2017, the IAEA adressed in a formal letter to the FANR the nuclear and radiological program is clear to start operations.
