Sudan and Russia roadmap in nuclear

On March 16, the Sudanese government and its Russian counterpart signed a roadmap to start the executive procedures for the construction of a nuclear plant in the middle of next year, and signed a memorandum of understanding for the training of local cadres working in the field.

The Minister of Water Resources, Irrigation and Electricity, “Moataz Moussa”, said that the road map is a milestone to complete a solid cooperation by establishing nuclear energy infrastructure and training of national cadres. He also added that the joint team had drawn up the detailed plan to complete the power plant. He pointed out to the discussions with the Russian counterpart for the mechanisms of implementing the first station in the first half of next year.

The minister explained that the visit of the Sudanese delegation to Moscow is an opportunity to learn about Russian development in the nuclear fields.

Worth mentioning, Sudan has signed a memorandum of understanding with Russia on the peaceful use of nuclear energy in June 2017 and the agreement on the peaceful use of nuclear energy in November 2017 in Sochi with the presence of the presidents “Al-Bashir” and “Putin”. The agreement to develop the nuclear plant in Khartoum was signed in December 2017.

The Sudanese delegation included Musa Omar, Undersecretary of the Ministry, and Nasser Ahmed Al-Mustafa, director of the General Directorate of Nuclear energy Generation at the ministry.
