Bolivian Irradiation Multipurpose Plant to be inaugurated in 2019

The Minister of Energy of Bolivia, Rafael Alarcón, announced that the Multipurpose Irradiation Plant will be inaugurated in August of next year, in the zone of District 8 of the city of El Alto.

Alarcón told the press that the initial works are already under way on the El Alto campus and the manufacturing of equipment abroad, so that it would be able to deliver the plant for the eighth month of the coming year.

The Multipurpose Irradiation Plant corresponds to the nuclear energy project developed by the national government for peaceful purposes, consolidated by a contract of 300 million dollars in 2017 with the Russian state company Rosatom.

This plant would represent the culmination of the first phase of the Bolivian nuclear project, which includes a cyclotron center -radiopharmacy-, a low-powered nuclear research reactor and a nuclear research and training laboratory.
