Science, Social Responsibility and Sovereignty

The 70th Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science* (SBPC) was held at the Federal University of Alagoas – UFAL, in the state of Alagoas, from July 22nd July 28th. The main theme of the event was “Science, Social Responsibility and Sovereignty”. The Annual Meeting has more than 250 activities, with the participation of renowned researchers and managers of the state and national systems of CT & I. One of these activities of “SBPC” is Expo T & C.

The president of INB, Reinaldo Gonzaga, was one of the attendants of the opening of Expo T&C, on July 23rd, and received the Minister of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications, Gilberto Kassab.

INB gave visitors of its booth the opportunity to learn about a prototype of the fuel element, view uranium pellets, watch videos and receive explanatory material on the whole process of producing nuclear fuel for electric power generation. Fábio Junqueira, INB’s engineer, also presented a lecture during the event, on July 24th, under the theme of “INB and the Nuclear Fuel Cycle”.

* The annual SBPC meetings are aimed at discussing public policies in the areas of Science, Technology, Innovation and Education and disseminating the advances of Science in the various areas of knowledge for the entire population. The first meeting was held in the headquarters of the Agronomic Institute of Campinas (IAC), in 1949.  The event is free and always happens at a public university.
