AFTER four years, the Experimental Power Reactor (RDE) development program initiated by the National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) finally entered the stage of detailed design Batan obtained permission from the Nuclear Energy Supervisory Agency (Bapeten).
“This status is the achievement of the leading stages for the design of the generation IV reactor compared to the achievements of other countries in the region in the same type of reactor,” said Head of BATAN , Djarot Sulistio Wisnubroto.
Djarot added that BATAN through the Center for Nuclear Reactor Safety Technology (PTKRN) has carried out safety studies and reactor technology.
This approval phase has been submitted since July 27, 2018 by sending part of the required documents, namely the detailed design documents and safety analysis report documents.
The design approval should be obtained in 2020 and the construction permit in 2021.
In the process, BATAN collaborated with various institutions, namely Kemenristekdikti, BPPT, ITB, IPB, University of Indonesia, and Pertamina University. RDE is a power reactor with a capacity of 10MWt, equivalent to 3 Mwe, besides producing electricity, it will also be used for the desalination process or to convert sea water into fresh water, hydrogen production, and coal liquefaction processes.
In addition to introducing details of RDE design, Head of PTKRN, Geni Rina Sunaryo also said there were five other products related to the operation of nuclear reactors .
These products are the Smart Management Asset Database for Multipurpose Reactors, RDE Simulator, Online monitoring of radioisotope production processes, rotary machine health monitors, publication management information systems, and detailed RDE design documents.
