Azerbaijan wants to step in the nuclear market

The State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom has sent to Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijian, a proposal for cooperation in the peaceful uses of atomic energy, which include the construction of a nuclear power plant. Azerbaijan wants to step in the nuclear market and already capitalized multiple competencies.

Moscow implies a gradual increase in cooperation in the nuclear field such as the construction of an atomic research reactor, build up some energy competencies, prepare the human resources during the next five or six years. The second stage would be the construction of a nuclear power plant. The site was already selected during the Soviet Union period.

Baku would be ready to self-finance the second phase and would not require a loan from Rosatom.
