National Key R&D Program–Intergovernmental Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Special Project “China-Indonesia High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor (HTGR) Joint Laboratory” held launching ceremony as well as the first seminar in Beijing. Prof. Djarot Sulistio Wisnubroto, President of Indonesian National Atomic Energy Agency, and Professor Zhang Zuoyi, Dean of Institute of Nuclear Energy Research (INET) at Tsinghua University attended the event.
Djarot expressed that HTGR is a very suitable energy solution for Indonesia which is endowed with multiple islands and scattered power grids. It is also one of the important technical routes for developing nuclear energy in Indonesia. Therefore, Indonesian National Atomic Energy Agency has made up its mind to develop HTGR technology.
Subsequently, as leading directors of the above-mentioned cooperation project, Professor Sun Yuliang (Vice President of INET), and Dr. Geni Rina Sunaryo (Director of the Nuclear Reactor Technology and Safety Center of the Indonesian National Atomic Energy Agency) signed a three-year work agreement on behalf of both parties.
According to the agreement, the joint laboratory will conduct researches mainly from the following 4 aspects: feasible from modular HTGR technology and application; technical regulations and regulatory system adaptability of Modular HTGR; simulation technology of Modular HTGR and the feasibility of the intellectual property transfer and localization.
*The Sino-Indonesian HTGR Joint Laboratory is supported by Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education of Indonesia. While INET of Tsinghua University and Indonesian National Atomic Energy Agency are responsible for the project implementation, aiming at promoting exchange and training of the scientific and technological personnel on both sides and encourage technology transfer through technical exchanges, personnel training and joint research.
NβN tip: HTGR is a very suitable energy solution for Indonesia which is endowed with multiple islands and scattered power grids. Therefore, it has great prospects in Indonesnia.
