Nuclear cooperation between the UAE and Spain

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Enusa Industrias Avanzadas (ENUSA) to identify frameworks for bilateral cooperation and to exchange information and expertise between the two sides on nuclear fuel services.

The MoU was signed at ENEC’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Eng. Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, CEO of ENEC, José Vicente Berlanga, President of ENUSA, and a number of officials and executives from both sides.

“We are pleased to sign the Memorandum of Understanding with ENUSA; as we continue to benefit from the global experience gained in the various fields of the peaceful nuclear energy sector. And the company has a remarkable track record of achievements and successes, so we look forward to working with them over the coming months and years”.

José Vicente Berlanga stressed the strategic importance of the MoU, pointing out that ENUSA is a Spanish state-owned company, interested in seeking all areas of cooperation with Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and looking forward to serving as a channel of communication for Spanish companies and institutions wishing to cooperate with ENEC and the UAE’s peaceful nuclear program.

ENUSA was founded in 1972 with the aim of exploring uranium, and subsequently developing as an advanced supplier of nuclear fuel and environmental services. Today, it is responsible for designing, manufacturing and supplying nuclear fuel rods for Spanish and international nuclear power plants, as well as providing a variety of fuel services.
