On Monday, March 25, Qatar inagurated the Umm Al Houl Power Station in Umm Al Houl, south of Al Wakra. The Umm Al-Houl station contributes to raising the electricity production capacity of Qatar by 30% and increasing the desalination capacity by 40%.
Umm Al Houl station is estimated to cost QR11 billion or US $ 3 billion, and the cumulative cost and financial flow of the plant over the next 25 years is estimated at SR66 billion or USD18 billion. The plant has a capacity of 2520 MW of electricity and 136 million gallons of potable water per day.
The station is a quality addition and a strong supporter of water and electric security in Qatar. It also uses modern technologies that protect the environment, ensure water production, and generate electricity with the highest standards and quality required.
Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) owns 60% of the Umm Al Hool plant, Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Qatar Foundation (QF) each own 5% each. The remaining 30% is owned by Mitsubishi–TEPCO consortium.
