Argentina exports nuclear technology to Peru

From 1985 to 1988, INVAP participated in the construction of a nuclear reactor for the Peruvian Institute of Nuclear Energy. The reactor is operational for more than 30 years. Conversations are held to see what kind of modernization is required.

With coordinated work between the national government, the government of Río Negro, Senator Miguel Ángel Pichetto and Ambassador Jorge Yoma, the first step is for INVAP to sell technology to Peru. Invap seeks to sell projects’ in satellite communication, defense, agriculture, and nuclear medicine. The most challenging thing is not selling technology, but “selling Argentina” abroad, which is not perceived as a technological country.

First Senator Pichetto and Governor Alberto Weretilneck invited Peruvian President Martín Vizcarra to visit INVAP’s facilities in Bariloche. In December, an INVAP mission traveled to Peru and presented its products and projects to the highest level of the Peruvian government.

Héctor Otheguy, General Manager of INVAP want to involve INVAP in the Peruvian Defense in particular in the radar and high precision drones for defense, the fight against drug trafficking in the Amazon area, the development of radioisotopes for medicinal application the Precision agriculture, and, among the most advanced talks, the possibility of building a Peruvian communications satellite with Argentine technology.
