Japan supports the renovation of power plants in Egypt

The Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, Masaki Onoki, and Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable energy, inaugurated the North Cairo power plant, in the presence of Yoshivomi Omura, principal representative of the Japan International Cooperation Organization (JICA) office in Egypt, and Tariq Abd Al-Hamid, president of the Cairo Electricity Company.

The power plant was renovated through a concessional loan from the Japanese government for the project to rehabilitate and improve the electricity sector in Egypt.

During the opening ceremony, they signed a contract for the renovation of the Sidi Krir and Al-Atf power plants.

This project aims to stabilize the supply of electricity by restoring the targeted capacity of thermal power plants by modernizing equipment and providing spare parts.

Such projects are expected to contribute to economic development in addition to mitigating the impact of climate change in Egypt by stabilizing the supply of electricity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
