The general director of the International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA ), Yukiya Amano visited the island of Cuba to formalize the XX Meeting of the Technical Coordination Body ( OCTA ), which was held on the Caribbean island between May 20 and May 24 at the Meliá Marina Varadero hotel, located in the province of Matanzas, western Cuba.
This meeting aims to discuss renewable energies with the participation of the bloc of member countries of the Regional Cooperation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean ( Arcal ), which will be chaired pro tempore by Cuba, in a span of two years.
” Cuba will assume the presidency of this technical coordination body for two years with the commitment to continue cooperating in the training of human resources, the promotion of nuclear applications and the promotion of a culture of security in the region,” said the vice minister of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba, José Fidel Santana Núñez.
