India and Vietnam have agreed to strengthen their relationship in defense, security, peaceful use of nuclear energy and the areas of outer space, oil and gas and renewable energy.
Last May, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu came on a four-day visit and met his Vietnam counterpart, Dong Tai N Tinh, Prime Minister N Shuwan Fuk and N. Ti Kim Nagan, President of the National Assembly.
The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement which included all the issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Both countries are engaged in defense and security, nuclear energy and Peaceful use of outer space, oil and gas, renewable energy, agriculture and innovation-based areas.
Vietnam is an important business partner of India and bilateral trade between the two countries was about $14 billion US last year, while it was $ 8 billion US, three years ago.
Both governments committed to increase trade and investment and agreed to promote direct flights to increase connectivity between tourism, business and people. According to the statement, the two countries reiterated the importance of making the Hind-Pacific region peaceful and prosperous based on national sovereignty and international law.
