Siemens to supply Basra with electricity

The Ministry of Electricity in the province of Basra in Iraq, on the first of August, signed a contract with the German company Siemens; to supply Basra with electricity.

The Minister of Electricity, “Loai Al-Khatib” said that: “Basra has suffered a lot of challenges in the past period, and today Basra is celebrating for providing electricity for 4 million citizens.”

The Minister pointed out that “the coming years will see the provision of more services of electric power.”

For his part, the Director General of the General Company for the Transfer of Electricity in the Southern Region, “Ziad Ali Fadel,” explained that the first phase will add a capacity of about 3750 MW to the grid, and will witness the addition and processing of a large number of power transformers, and for the first time, with capacities up to 90 mva.
