Elsewedy Electric has signed an agreement with Toyota Tsushu for the joint development of the design and construction of two 50 MW photovoltaic power plants each.
The agreement between the two companies includes a system for storing energy in batteries in the cities of Sisheke and Mongo in the Republic of Zambia, according to the statement of the Egyptian Ministry of Investment, on August 28th, 2019. It noted that the project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Bank (JBIC) for the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Zambia.
The statement explained that the project will be one of the largest projects in the world to store solar energy in batteries and the largest ever in Africa.
This came on the sidelines of the seventh edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7) in Yokohama, Japan.
The signing was witnessed by the President of Zambia, Edgar Longo, and Sahar Nasr, Minister of Investment and International Cooperation.
