The Russian company “Rosatom” offered the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Science and Technology; to build a nuclear reactor for peaceful and medical purposes.
This came during a meeting of the Iraqi Minister of Higher Education, Qusay al-Suhail, with a Russian delegation, which included the Russian Minister Plenipotentiary, Maxim Litvinov, and the commercial attaché of the Moscow Embassy in Baghdad, Ilya Lolov, and the attaché in the embassy, Artium Stregov.
A meeting between two technical delegations from the two countries is scheduled before the end of this year to discuss the details of the offer made by the Russian company, and the compatibility of the offer with the requirements and needs of Iraq.
The ministry said in a statement that the two sides discussed the offer to build a nuclear reactor in Iraq in cooperation with the Russian government, during the meeting at the University of Baghdad 24th of September.
For their part, the Russian delegation expressed Moscow’s readiness and willingness to cooperate with the Iraqi ministries concerned with this project to obtain a consensus for its establishment.
