Construction work for Akkuyu unit 2 to begin in spring 2020

The Director General of “Rosatom”, Alexey Lekhachev, announced the start of construction of the “No. 2” unit of Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey in the spring of 2020.

Lekhachev also stated that a Turkish partner, İçtaş, will be cooperating in building this project. He said that İçtaş: “is one of the largest private investment construction companies, and this project will be built with its cooperation.”

“The work is already ongoing on site, and an official ceremony for pouring concrete will be held by March”, Lekhachev added.

The cost of the project is approximately $ 20 billion US, and the first unit is planned to start operating in 2023. The Akkuyu nuclear power plant will be built in accordance with the “Build, Own, and Operate” B.O.O system, within which the Russian side builds and operates the plant.
