Nigerian Energy Minister, Sally Maman, announced that his country intends to construct the second largest hydroelectric power station in Africa, after the government settled a judicial dispute that was postponing the project.
Maman said in an interview in the capital Abuja: “We have now overcome a major problem that was stopping this project and it is almost finished.” He added that Attorney General Abu Bakr Malami was laying down the terms of the settlement, which were not disclosed.
Worth noting that electricity reaches only about 60% of the population, and even those who receive electricity suffer from blackouts.
President Muhammad Bukhari had made addressing the electricity problem a priority and pledged to repair the dilapidated electricity infrastructure and build new ones, including the Mapela facility in the eastern state of Turaba.
