Rosatom to upgrade safety equipment at the Bulgarian Kozloduy NPP

Rusatom Service JSC, the electrical energy division of the Russian company Rosatom, has signed a contract with the Bulgarian “Kozloduy” nuclear power plant to upgrade the neutron flow monitoring equipment for units 5 and 6 of the plant. This comes after winning the public tender announced in September 2019.

“Neutron flow monitoring equipment plays an important role in ensuring the safety of the nuclear power plant, especially as it is used in VVER reactor control systems and their protection,” Rosatom said in a statement. “The modernization of this system is one of the most important measures that must be taken.”

JSC OKB GIDROPRESS (responsible for designing reactors of the “Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant”) and the National Research Center “Korshatov Institute” (Nuclear Research Adviser at the plant) will participate in the approval of the necessary technical documents, due to the company’s extensive experience in similar projects; being a supplier of major hardware components.

It is worth noting that the portfolio of projects of the Rusatom Service of the “Kozloduy” nuclear power plant in Bulgaria includes a set of important roles, which include a complete feasibility study to extend the life of the units 5 and 6 of the plant and upgrade turbine generators to increase the capacity to 104%.

Rusatom Service occupies leading positions in China, Bulgaria and Armenia and acts as a general contractor for operating life extending, perform scheduled preventive maintenance and equipment upgrading in nuclear power plants featuring VVER reactors.
