The Brazilian government is adapting the Ten Year Energy Plan to announce the auction schedules for the coming years. The new planning includes, according to the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, the auction to replace oil-fired power plants with natural gas plants. The contracting of these projects should happen in 2021.
The MME’s Secretary of Energy Planning and Development, Reive Barros, informed that the alternatives for defining the amount to be contracted in the power auction are analyzed in the load projection for the next ten years. The contracting model is discussed, and the expectation is that the bidding guidelines will come into public consultation this second semester.
The government also reevaluates the A-4 and A-5 auctions model, which aims to replace 5GW of oil thermal power plant contracts with maturity between 2022 and 2026.
