About 200 Egyptian companies have been nominated to work in the first Egyptian nuclear power plant in El-Dabaa, which is implemented by the Russian company Rosatom.
The main contractor – Atomstroyexport of Russia – will choose from these companies when bidding for the project, and they will work in a sub-contractor form.
The Russian contractor visited these companies to evaluate and review their products and the extent to which those products conform to the required specifications in all fields, most notably: iron and steel, cement, cables, general contracting, metals, and others, and a list of those entities was prepared.
The Ministry of Electricity and Energy aims to reach, through contracts for the implementation of the Dabaa nuclear plant, about 20% as a minimum for the local participation rate for the first nuclear unit, reaching up to 35% for the fourth nuclear unit.
Amgad Al-Wakeel, head of the Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority, explained that vertical leveling of the land for the site is currently underway, and auxiliary buildings are being built, such as those for the construction and assembly base.
The offshore berth for receiving nuclear project equipment is also being implemented, and utility works, including water, electricity, communications, and infrastructure as a whole are being completed, all in cooperation with the main contractor.
Early August, the Egyptian government signed an agreement to start manufacturing the “Core Catcher” for the first and second power units of the station.
El Dabaa NPP obtained the site acceptance permission from the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority on March 10, 2019, and is now awaiting the construction permit, which is expected to be issued in mid-2022.
