Start-up of the third plant of Barakah nuclear power plant

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation announced the start-up of the third plant of Barakah nuclear power plant.

The plant residing in the Al Dhafra region in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is run by the Corporation’s subsidiary Nawah Energy Company, which is responsible for operating and maintaining Barakah Nuclear Power Plants. This start-up is another step further toward the full commercial launch of the plant within the coming months.

Once commercially operational, the third plant will add up to another 1,400 megawatts of carbon-free electricity to the UAE’s electricity grid, which is a major guarantee of energy security in the country. Once fully operational, the four units will annually reduce 22.4 million tons of carbon emissions, a major effort in addressing climate change.
