A new Leader at the Forum of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies of Africa

Dr. Yau Idris Usman, Acting Director General/CEO of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) has been unanimously elected the Vice Chairman of the Forum of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies of Africa (FNRBA) during their plenary meeting held alongside the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in September.

Since its existence on March of 2009, the Forum of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies in Africa (FNRBA) is instrumental in the enhancement, strengthening and harmonization of the radiation protection, nuclear safety and security regulatory infrastructure and framework among its member states.

It serves as an effective platform for the exchange of regulatory experiences and practices among the nuclear regulatory bodies in Africa.

Membership is open to African states with established nuclear regulatory bodies. Members include Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Cote D’Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The FNRBA collaborates with partner organizations from the following countries: Canada, European Commission, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Norway, Russian Federation, Spain and the United States.
