A new power plant in Libya with a Greek partnership

The General Electricity Company in Tobruk, Libya, and in coordination with the Municipal Business Steering Council, will receive the Greek company “METKA“, which will build and install a power station based on gas in the city, with capacity of 740 MW.

The director of the media department in the municipality of Tobruk, “Salah Fuad”, announced that the Council held a meeting, on March 3rd, with officials of the electricity company and the security services to discuss the preparations to receive the company executing the project gas station in the city.

Fuad explained that the new gas-powered plant includes five generating units. The plot of construction was allocated by the competent committee, in preparation for receiving the company’s equipment and installation team in mid-April.

He added that the head of the municipal council and the security director of Tobruk and all the security services “will provide a suitable environment for the work of the company and will work to secure and protect it during the period of work for 15 months,” noting that “the first unit of the station is expected to be operational by November of this year, with a capacity of 150 MW”.

The General Electric Company, under the chairmanship of Engineer “Abdul Majeed Hamza”, signed on 27 September 2017, the contract for the implementation of the Tobruk gas station project to generate electricity with the company “METKA” of Greece, with a capacity of more than 700 MW and a total value of about 500 million Libyan dinars or over US $ 358 million.
