Algeria’s renewable energy strategy is a step forward

The Oxford Business Group conducted a study regarding Algeria’s renewable energy strategy and confirmed that it reached a higher level. This confirmation was a result of Algeria’s decision in May to create a Ministry specialized in the renewable energy sector. The Oxford Business Group said that the Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energy took the 2011 Algerian energy strategy to a “higher level.” The strategy aims at increasing the use of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix and providing energy security and sustainability.

The strategy will add 22 thousand MW to the Algerian energy mix by 2030, which means a 27% increase in the energy mix. Solar energy projects will cover 61.7% of the overall planned projects and one of these projects is building solar energy power plant that will produce 4 GW. Other renewable energy projects are 22.6% wind energy power plants projects, 9% solar energy heating power plants, and other.
