Argentina and Belgian agency extended bilateral cooperation

Nucleoeléctrica Argentina and the Center for Nuclear Research of Belgium SCK-CEN signed on June 26 a Memorandum of Understanding on safety of operation in nuclear power plants that seals and extends cooperation between both parties.

Omar Semmoloni, President of Nucleoeléctrica Argentina, Derrick Gosselin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SCK-CEN and Eric van Walle, Managing Director of SCK-CEN signed the agreement that took place in the framework of an economic mission of the government of Belgium to Argentina and Uruguay.

The rubric was carried out in Buenos Aires in the presence of Princess Astrid of Belgium and a Belgian parliamentary delegation that included the Foreign Minister, Didier Reynders, and the Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Pieter De Crem.

Also, as part of this mission, representatives of SCK-CEN held a meeting with authorities of Nucleoeléctrica Argentina in which the Belgian institution explained about the capabilities of this foundation that aims to promote nuclear research and development, as well as provide services in the matter.

The delegation witnessed a technical presentation by experts from Nucleoeléctrica Argentina and then toured the facilities of Atucha units I and II Nuclear Complex.

The current Memorandum of Understanding defines the framework for collaboration on issues related to surveillance programs for steel and internal components of reactor pressure vessels; aging and degradation of materials; long-term operation of nuclear power plants; waste management and disposal; and training and education.
