Because of the Coronavirus … Abu Dhabi postpones the development of a solar power plant

The Abu Dhabi Energy Department has postponed the announcement of the winning bids for the development of a 1.5 GW solar power plant in the Al Dhafra Region.

“The meeting that was taking place on March 18 to open the final bids for the development of the plant has been postponed,” said Awaida Murshid, head of the Abu Dhabi Energy Department. The decision was taken in light of the rules prohibiting the holding of meetings with a large number of participants, due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Murshid added: “We are also continuously monitoring the effects of the current situation on global economies and energy prices, whether it is oil or renewable energy sources, and the availability of imported products and equipment necessary to continue solar and nuclear projects.”

The Energy Department will continue to ensure the continuity of safe and reliable supplies of water, sanitation and electricity. The UAE has taken several measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus, including banning international flights, closing mosques, schools, shopping malls, and restaurants, and urging residents to stay at home.
