Tuesday, March 13, the start of the first solar power plant operating in Benpan, in Aswan Governorate, as part of the Egyptian government project to establish the world’s largest solar park. “Infiniti” plant is the first plant to generate 50 megawatts of solar power in the project and will be linked to the grid.
Eng. Mohamed Emarah, project manager at Infinity station in Benaban, Aswan, talked about the details of the starting of the production of the first 50 megawatts solar plant. He explained that the station is built on an area of 250 acres at a cost of LE 1 billion or about $ 57 million.
The solar power projects in Egypt are achieving remarkable progress, especially the “Benpan” project, part of the broader “Shomoos Nubia” project, which will be one of the largest in the world.
The project aims to produce between 1.6 gigawatts and 2 gigawatts of solar power by mid-2019, equivalent to nearly 90 percent of the production of Aswan High Dam.
