Big Three actively arrange nuclear heating project

In recent years, with the frequent occurrence of large-scale smog weather in northern China in the winter, many inland provinces have begun to arrange nuclear based heating projects. Qinghai, in Northwest of China, intending to “become a major new energy industry base of China”, is a recent example.

On December 29, 2018, the General Office of the People’s Government of Qinghai Province issued a notice on the publication of the “Work Plan for the Construction of the National Clean Energy Demonstration Province (2018-2020)”, saying that the preliminary work of nuclear energy heating and nuclear power projects was steadily advanced to 2019. At the beginning of the year, the preliminary feasibility study report for the nuclear energy heating and nuclear power construction project shall be prepared, and all work shall focus on the completion of the site survey report, the determination of the candidate site, and the initiation of the preliminary feasibility study report.

At the same time, with the goal of striving for national approval of nuclear energy heating and nuclear power construction projects by the end of 2020, the pre-feasibility study report, feasibility study report and project application report will be completed.

In addition to Qinghai, according to the public information, the nuclear energy heating industry has been actively promoted in northern China for the moment. CNNC, CGN, SPIC and Tsinghua University have carried out general site election and industrial promotion work in various provinces and regions such as Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong and Ningxia.

NβN tip: A major advantage of nuclear energy heating is low carbon cleaning, which is effective. With the development of global nuclear power, more and more countries are paying attention to the application of small reactors because these small reactors are relatively economic and safe.
