The birth of nuclear safety culture in Bahrain

Bahrain Civil Defense Council faced the relocation and the management of industrial and residential waste, including radioactive elements from hospital facilities. The Board recently recommended to the government to design a national strategy in waste recycling field and a media plan to raise awareness of the risks.

The Chairman of the Committee proposed to localize a repository site far from the risky areas and at the same time to educate the public regarding the risks of industrial and other civilian waste.

A working group is preparing a plan for nuclear security and safety and this is in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) which contribute to the protection of the dangers of the nuclear threats but mostly radioactive waste management.

Finally, Bahrain plans to hire experts in cooperation with the IAEA to review the National Emergency Plan for radiological hazard and nuclear security issues.
