Brazil planning the regulatory field for the development of the nuclear sector

The Brazilian Nuclear Program Development Committee published the resolution No.15 to streamline the regulatory area for the development of the nuclear sector. Minister Augusto Heleno signed the decision on September 27.

The group will be made up of representatives from the Ministries of Mines and Energy, Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications, Environment, and the GSI (Institutional Security Office).

GSI representative will coordinate the activities from other institutions, members of the group, that include:

  • The Navy Technology Center, in São Paulo,
  • The Federal Revenue Special Secretariat,
  • The National Nuclear Energy Commission,
  • Eletrobras-Eletronuclear,
  • The Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources,
  • The National Health Surveillance agencies,
  • The National Supplementary Health,
  • The National Mining,
  • The Nuclear Safety and Quality Naval.

The technical group will draft, in 180 days, a report that proposes guidelines and goals to enable the dynamization of the regulatory area for the development of the Brazilian nuclear sector. The Coordinator of the Brazilian Nuclear Program Development Committee will review the draft, and the deadline for delivery is extendable for another 180 days.
