Brazilian Navy participates in the inauguration of the 7th cascade of uranium ultracentrifuges

On August 30, Brazil took another important step towards increasing uranium enrichment capacity with the inauguration of the 7th Ultracentrifuge Cascade at Nuclear Industries of Brazil nuclear plant in Resende, Rio de Janeiro.

The Brazilian Navy (MB), through the Marinha Technology Center in São Paulo, is responsible for the manufacturing, installation and commissioning of ultracentrifuge cascades.

The new waterfall will promote a 25% increase in the production of enriched uranium, which is the transformation of this ore into nuclear fuel.

The inauguration is part of the first phase of the implementation of the Uranium Isotopic Enrichment Plant, a joint project with the Navy, which aims at the installation of 10 waterfalls of ultracentrifuges, and should, in the end, meet approximately 70% of the demand for enriched uranium The second phase provides for the installation and commissioning of 30 more ultracentrifuge cascades, which will give INB the capacity to fully meet Angra 1, 2 and 3 refills, reaching a commercially sustainable scale of production.
