Centralized solar exceeds 3 GW of installed capacity in Brazil

Brazil has just surpassed the 3 GW mark of the photovoltaic solar source’s operational power in large plants – six years after the first auction held in 2014 to contract the source.

In total, the technology accumulates more than R $15.9 billion (USD 2.94 Billion) in private investments made (disregarding investments in distributed solar generation), according to calculations by the Brazilian Solar Photovoltaic Energy Association (Absolar), and generated about 90 thousand direct jobs and over the period.

By 2025, Brazil will accumulate R $25.8 billion invested in solar energy, considering the projects already contracted.

Currently, solar generation represents 1.7% of the country’s electrical matrix. The executive president of Absolar, Rodrigo Sauaia, indicated that solar energy would play an increasingly strategic role in achieving its economic expansion goals since it is the renewable source that generates the most jobs in the world.
