Changjiang 2 launched in China

The construction and signing ceremony of Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone Construction Program (seventh works) was held in Haikou on November 18th. It focused on 129 projects, including the Hainan Changjiang Nuclear Power Phase II Project.

Zhang Donghui, general manager of Huaneng Nuclear Power Development Co., Ltd., stated at the groundbreaking ceremony that the full launch of the second phase of Changjiang Nuclear Power Project marked a new era of mass production of three-generation nuclear power technology with full independent intellectual property in China.

Hainan Changjiang Nuclear Power Phase II Project has seen a total investment of 39.45 billion yuan and plans to invest another 1.8 billion yuan in 2019.

Changjiang Phase 2 plans to install two million kilowatt-scale PWR units. Units 3&4, located next to Units 1&2, features “Hualong No. 1” technology (integrated technology). The nominal power of a single unit is about 1200 MWe, and construction cycle is 60 months.

Unit 3 will pour the first concrete of the nuclear island in August 2020. It is expected to be completed in 2025, while Unit 4 in 2026.

 

* Hainan Changjiang Nuclear Power Project plans to build 4 nuclear power units and will be built in phases. Units 1&2 in Phase I costed 24.9 billion yuan and were put into commercial operation on December 25, 2015 and August 12, 2016 respectively. At present, nuclear power provides nearly one-third of the power demand in Hainan Provice, greatly improving and optimizing the energy structure in this region.
