While A team of 14 experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conducted in September a peer review, an Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) mission, during ten days, the Ministry of Environmental Protection National Nuclear Safety Administration of PRC (MEP-NNSA) signed a series of nuclear cooperation agreements with foreign nuclear safety regulatory bodies, including TAEK (Turkey) during the G20 in Beijing, Czech Republic and Argentina at IAEA during the 60th General Conference.
MEP-NNSA will have to implement the content of the agreements and extend the specific bi-lateral cooperation with their counterparts.
Looking back to the seven key weaknesses raised during the IRRS, will the NNSA have enough human resources, expertise, and time to follow up?
The regulator should learn more from foreign experiences counterparts, since the country wants to reach 88 GW of nuclear electricity by 2020, rather than lecturing and promising support and “exchange of information” to Turkey, Argentina and the Czech Republic.
