China launch gamma detection array project

On August 6, seven important institutes in Chinese nuclear sector, including Nuclear Physics Institute affiliated to CIAE, Modern Physics Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beihang University, Jilin University, Shandong University and Shenzhen University, signed a cooperation agreement. Within the framework of the agreement, they decide to jointly establish in-beam gamma spectroscopy arrays project at China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE), which marks the official launch of China’s new generation of large-scale gamma detection arrays.

It will further promote the integration and upgrading of the domestic spectroscopy research platform, aiming to provide talent and technical reserves for China’s nuclear physics mission, especially for the analysis of the nuclear reactor and nuclear structure research.

The in-beam gamma spectroscopy research is an important field in the current nuclear structure research. The multi-probe multi-angle large gamma detection array is used to measure the beam gamma spectrum on the accelerator, which can further study the frontier field of nuclear structure. Meanwhile, beam gamma spectroscopy can also be applied in nuclear reactions, nuclear celestial bodies, nuclear data, nuclear energy research, nuclear technology development and nuclear medicine.
