China and Pakistan extend the nuclear industry chain

Unit 4 at the Chashma nuclear power plant in Pakistan was connected to the grid on 29 June. The Chinese-supplied pressurized water reactor (PWR) – the country’s fifth power reactor – is expected to enter commercial operation by the end of August. A ceremony was held to mark the unit’s grid connection, with representatives from the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).

On the same day, CNNC-Zhongyuan Engineering Company signed another cooperation contract with Chashma Nuclear Power Plant regarding the radioactive waste incineration treatment facility.

Mr. Cao Shudong, deputy general manager of CNNC, also discussed with the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission about the C4 unit plan and the other nuclear-related field cooperation.
