On the morning of June 9th, the feasibility study of Fujian YunxiaoPumped-storage Power Station, independently developed and built by Zhangzhou Energy under the China NationalNuclear Power Co. (CNNP), was officially launched at the project site. The pumping project is carrying out preparatory work together with the nuclear power project in accordance with the new operating model as “integrated development and operation between nuclear and pumped storage.” At present, the application to be China’s first demonstration project of “Nuclear and pumped storage integrated development and operation” is underway.
Li Xiaoming, Assistant to General Manager of China National Nuclear Corporation, Zheng Yanguo from CNNP, Tan Yunkun, Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Party Committee, Mayor Liu Yuan, and He Hui, Party Secretary of Zhangzhou Energy, assisted to the inauguration.
The site of the project is located in Huotian Town, Yunxiao County, Fujian Province. It plans to build 6 sets of 300 MW of reversible hydro-generator units with a total installed capacity of 1.8 GW. The total project investment is 9.6 billion Chinese Yuan (1.4 Billion USD). The mainfacilitieswillconsist ofupper and lower reservoirs, underground powerhouses and water systems and switching stations etc.
At present, the funds for implementing feasibility study has been raised. The geologic exploration and geological test work are carried out to assess the engineering geological conditions of the underground.
After the project is completed, it will cooperate with the operation of the nuclear power plants and will mainly undertake tasks such as peak-shaving, peak load shifting, frequency modulation, phase modulation and standby for emergencies of Fujian Power Grid. The annual output value is about 1.9 billion Chinese Yuan (278 Million USD), with taxes and surcharges about 180 million Chinese Yuan (26.4 Million USD). The project has been listed in the National 13th Five-Year Plan for Hydropower Development and Renewable Energy Development.
