Turkey published in the Official Gazette an agreement for cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy with China, which is a necessary step to open the way for Beijing to build a third nuclear power plant in Turkey in Iğneada, in the North-West of the country, close to the Bulgarian border.
The protocol was signed in 2012 but the international agreement went into effect in Turkey only when published in the Official Gazette. The protocol includes other investment in the renewable energy and coal sector as well. The reactor is planned to be operational by 2030.
China plans to build four reactors with the support of Westinghouse. State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) plans to build its CAP1400 reactor.
Note: Turkey will open two tenders in the wind and solar markets by the end of 2016.
