China will build new nuclear stations in Argentina

The president of the Argentina Mr. Mauricio Macri will visit China in May to finalize the agreement to build another two new nuclear power plants in Argentina. It is expected to sign the contract on May 17th.

In this potential project, the China National Nuclear Corporation (‘CNNC’) will be the main participant. The total investment will reach 12.5 billion USD with a 20-year loan repayment period and another 5-year grace period. The interest rate is 4.5%.

 

Argentina has three nuclear reactors, while this new project will build a 745MW reactor (Atucha III) and a 1150MW. According to the planning, the Atucha III will start the construction in 2018 and finish within 7 years.

Unit 4, will use the natural uranium and heavy water (Candu technology). Unit 5 will be a PWR ( Hualong).
