China’s key weakness: radiation monitoring

The Chinese civil nuclear industry since its existence in the mid nineties was focused in the power plants. The radiation test and monitoring systems fall far behind the western competitors. To catch up with the international trends in the nuclear market, China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC) invested in the Radiation Safety Supervision R&D Base and the construction of the Phase 1 plans will be equipped by October 2018. CNNC and the Ministry of Environmental Protection (National Nuclear Safety Administration) lead the project.

This investment answers also to the recent radiated seafood smuggling case in China that drawn the government concern for the public safety and the lack of domestic technology.
