China’s Nuclear Fuel Production back on track

CNNC Northern HWR nuclear fuel element production line is currently the only CANDU-6 nuclear fuel element production line in China.

According to the unified deployment of CNNC and China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation, CNNC-Northern Nuclear Fuel Element Co., Ltd. (CNNFC) is doing a good job in preventing and controlling the corona virus epidemic. At the same time, it actively organized the resumption of production of heavy water reactor nuclear fuel element production lines. As of now, 1,477 nuclear fuel element rod bundles have been produced, and nearly 13% of the annual objective has been completed.

CNNFC is the first nuclear fuel element factory in China, which has been undertaking the production and development of nuclear materials and nuclear fuel elements in China for almost 62 years. CNNFC has completed China’s only heavy water reactor nuclear fuel element production line, pressurized water reactor nuclear fuel element production line, China’s mere AP1000 nuclear fuel element production line, and the world’s first high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear fuel element production line. It has become China’s significant nuclear fuel element manufacturer with the most comprehensive technology route. It has provided operating “grain”-nuclear power fuel elements and components for many nuclear power plants such as Qinshan Phase II, Qinshan Phase III, Fangjiashan, Tianwan, Sanmen, and Haiyang projects.
